Since Donald Trump's official inauguration, in just the past two weeks, Musk's-led "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) has risen from a mysterious organization to the global media's focus. What made it famous was a shocking move—shutting down the more than 60-year-old United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

As the name suggests, DOGE's core philosophy is "streamlined efficiency," and its operating method is also highly disruptive. The entire department is composed of six young people, aged between 19 and 25, with three of them still in college. They have been directly entrusted with key engineering positions and tasked with reducing government costs. For Musk, this young elite team is not only the core strength of DOGE but also an experimental field for future government operational model changes.

Additionally, the 21-year-old Akash Bobba, 22-year-old Ethan Shaotran, and 23-year-old Luke Farritor are also among the team. According to reports, they have received "A-suite level clearance," which means they can work in the top offices of government agencies and have access to all physical spaces and IT systems.

The oldest among them is 25-year-old Gavin Kliger, a UC Berkeley graduate. Although he has not been recognized as having the highest level of clearance, he has already proven to wield significant power.

Finally, Gautier Cole Killian has been appointed as a member of the Digital Government Expert Group (DOGE) and is said to be currently a "volunteer" at this stage.

After widespread criticism of the youthfulness of these individuals in the media yesterday, Musk made a statement on these appointments.

Musk wrote on X, "It must be acknowledged that media reports claiming DOGE has the world's top software engineers are indeed true."

25-Year-Old Gavin Kliger

According to The New York Times, 25-year-old Kliger is the account holder of a controversial internal email at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

This UC Berkeley graduate issued instructions to all USAID staff to not return to the Washington headquarters on Monday.

Simultaneously, up to 600 staff members reported being locked out of the work computer system, unable to access the office platform normally. This situation bears a striking resemblance to the large-scale account lockouts and access restrictions that occurred during Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter (now X).

Following the incident, Kliger posted a paid article on Substack titled "Why Choose DOGE? Why I Gave Up a Seven-Figure Salary to Save America."

23-Year-Old Luke Faritol

Luke Faritol has had a longstanding connection with Musk, having previously interned at SpaceX before securing this new role.

Having dropped out of the University of Nebraska, Luke began working for Nat Friedman, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur behind GitHub.

After Friedman was later appointed as the Secretary of Energy and Environment, he described Luke as a "national treasure."

In 2024, this young man gained acclaim for using artificial intelligence to help decipher a scroll from the ancient city of Pompeii, which had been badly damaged. Scientists had been attempting to decode this document for centuries without success, but Luke managed to do so, winning a portion of a $700,000 prize as a result.

19-Year-Old Edward Kristan

The youngest member of Musk's elite team is only 19 years old and is a student at Northeastern University in Boston.

Reportedly, last summer, Kristan interned at Musk's Neuralink for three months after graduating from high school. Kristan's role in DOGE is relatively unknown, but he is listed as an "expert."

WIRED cited sources saying that Kristan has been on the phone with department staff, asking them to 'review code they had written themselves, to justify his work'.

The report stated that he once appeared on a General Services Administration staff call, but the staff did not know who he was or why he was there.

Kristan was born into a business family and is the heir to his father's popcorn brand, Lesser Evil. Kristan was a part of the brand's team. Reportedly, until recently, Kristan was also using an account named '@EdwardBigBaller' on social media.

21-Year-Old Akash-Bobba

Bobba is another "expert" in the department and is currently still studying at the University of California, Berkeley. According to a now-deleted former LinkedIn account, Bobba was previously an investment engineering intern at a hedge fund.

Prior to this, he had interned at Meta and Palantir (founded by 2016 MAGA donor Peter Thiel). Just six years ago, Bobba was organizing a local Model United Nations at the New Jersey-Pennsylvania border. His father is a computer science scholar.

22-Year-Old Ethan-Shotran

Shotran founded the company Energize AI, which provides a scheduling assistant for professionals. This startup received a $100,000 grant from OpenAI in 2023.

This 22-year-old stated last September that he is a senior at Harvard University, reportedly researching self-driving cars at the school's computational lab.

Musk is currently working on developing self-driving cars at his Tesla headquarters, and is well-known for this.

Shotran is also a member of the Harvard Mountaineering Club and has served as a dive master during breaks in Hawaii.

He also has a unique connection to Musk, having participated in Musk's xAI "hackathon." He and his team used Grok of xAI to create an arguably incorrect response to a hypothetical question, ultimately winning second place.

24-Year-Old Gautier-Cole-Kirian

Kilian previously worked as an engineer at Jump Trading, a company specialized in high-frequency financial trading and algorithms. Reportedly, he is now a "volunteer" at the Digital Government Office, but his specific role is not yet clear.

This 24-year-old individual is a graduate of McGill University.

Their rise marks an unprecedented experiment—a transformation of a massive government institution through an extremely lean, highly technical team. Whether this will herald a revolution in administrative management, completely overturning the traditional bureaucratic system, or merely be a brief and controversial political farce, awaits validation over time.

Scaling Crypto Derivatives: The Digital Asset Infrastructure Behind High-Volume Trading

In the fast-moving digital asset ecosystem, derivatives platforms face an extreme architectural test. High-leverage futures markets demand more than just standard security—they require absolute operational precision, zero-latency matching engines, and ironclad structural scalability, all while navigating intense market volatility.

As global platforms scale to meet these demands, the industry is shifting away from rigid, monolithic setups toward a more agile, "decoupled" infrastructure philosophy.

The Blueprint for High-Volume Copy Trading

For elite global exchanges like WEEX (founded in 2018), this architectural choice becomes critical when scaling high-volume retail features like social copy trading. When thousands of users automatically mirror the real-time strategies of elite traders simultaneously, it triggers sudden, monumental spikes in concurrent transactional volume.

To prevent execution latency or settlement bottlenecks during these peak volatility events, a platform's primary engine must remain entirely dedicated to risk management, copy-trade synchronization, and order matching.

The Architectural Rule: New-generation platforms must separate front-end user execution engines from heavy backend infrastructural overhead to eliminate operational friction.

By separating these layers, platforms can maintain complete sovereignty over their trading environments and user experiences while strategically aligning with institutional-grade infrastructure ecosystems. This strategic framework allows modern exchanges to leverage advanced Digital Asset Custody infrastructure such as Cobo’s behind the scenes, ensuring that backend wallet management scales elastically alongside trading spikes.

Capitalizing on Market Momentum and 400× Leverage

In a derivatives arena where platforms offer up to 400× leverage on perpetual contracts, capital efficiency and market agility are core business metrics. To capture market momentum, an exchange needs the ability to rapidly expand its asset offerings, supporting everything from legacy crypto assets to sudden, trending altcoins across a massive library of trading pairs.

Adopting a flexible, scalable Wallet-as-a-Service (WaaS) solution such as Cobo’s could completely rewrite the development timeline for high-growth exchanges. Instead of spending months of engineering capital building out custom backend wallet architectures for every new blockchain network, platforms can deploy localized infrastructure in days.

This agility allows platforms to instantly scale their listings to over a thousand trading pairs without compromising security or delaying time-to-market. It mirrors the exact operational advantages seen during high-velocity market events, similar to how advanced wallet infrastructure empowers platforms during sudden asset surges; allowing exchanges to pass that speed and liquidity directly to their global user base.

A Mature Foundation for Growth

The synergy between trusted infrastructure ecosystems and global trading platforms represents the natural evolution of a maturing crypto market. As WEEX continues to scale its global spot and derivatives offerings for over 6 million users, adopting robust backend paradigms proves that platforms no longer have to compromise between cutting-edge trading velocity and uncompromised structural security.
